“We didn’t ask for this moment, but we are prepared to meet it”

On Monday, a recall petition to remove Jackson County executive Frank White came to fruition. Jackson County election board certified 43,011 registered voters on the petition. The effort required 42,902 signatures.

County Executive, Frank White in a statement said, “Today’s announcement is simply a procedural step, not a verdict. Meeting a signature threshold doesn’t decide anything. What it does reveal is how far certain interests are willing to go to punish elected officials who refuse to cave to political pressure and backroom stadium subsidy deals.

“This effort is being led and funded by dark money groups and self-interested insiders who were denied a blank check for a bad stadium deal. They didn’t get what they wanted, and now they’re trying to buy political revenge.”

“This recall isn’t about public service it’s about private gain. It’s being driven by those who want county government to work for them, not the people. But I was elected to serve taxpayers, not special interests and I won’t be bullied into selling out the residents of Jackson County.”

“We will shine a light on what’s really behind this undemocratic, partisan push. The public deserves to know who is trying to buy influence, rewrite the truth and weaponize the recall process.”

Manny Abarca IV issued a statement upon the certification of signatures, “The advancement of the recall petition process reflects the growing frustration and deepens concerns held by many Jackson County residents. I trust the people of Jackson County. I trust their voices, their lived experiences, and their power to demand fair taxation. Many have felt unheard, especially in the wake of the 2019, 2023, and 2025 property assessment crises, which jeopardized the stability of working families across our county. I believe this process serves as a sobering reminder to every elected official: we serve at the will of the people.

We must listen, we must be responsive, and we must act in good faith. We all make mistakes- but it’s how we correct them and what we do to ensure transparency and rebuild trust that truly matters. I remain committed to doing my part in ensuring a government that listens to its residents and upholds their dignity, the right to due process, and fairness to the county. Due process allows us to address grievances in a way that respects both the rule of law and the rights of all involved. I commend those who exercised their right to organize, advocate, and demand accountability- individuals who care so deeply about our community that they undertook the difficult and time- consuming task of civic engagement to bring this effort to fruition.”

The Jackson County Legislature will formally receive and consider the certified petition in accordance with the required legal process. If accepted, the recall question will move to the voters for a decision as designed by county charter, ordinance, and rules.”

County Legislature DaRon McGee said in his statement, “Today the Election Boards confirmed that a citizen-led recall petition against County Executive Frank White Jr. has reached the threshold needed to trigger a ballot measure. This is an unprecedented and uncommon development, and my first responsibility as Chair of the County Legislature is to ensure that we follow the legal process.

This moment is not about personalities or politics—it’s about process. The petition was initiated by residents exercising a democratic right granted by the charter. It is our duty now to ensure their voices are honored through a lawful, transparent, and orderly path forward.

This is not an adversarial action by the Legislature. It is not about us versus the County Executive. It is a citizen-led initiative, and we will treat it with the seriousness and care that democracy requires.

At times like this, residents deserve steady leadership—leadership that puts the rule of law above emotion and ensures that county government remains functional and responsive no matter what lies ahead.

We didn’t ask for this moment, but we are prepared to meet it. As Chair, I will work to ensure that Jackson County remains focused, stable, and accountable. The strength of our institutions is measured in moments of challenge, and I am committed to helping guide us through this one—legally, calmly, and with public trust at the center.”
