Chavez leads historical presentations on Westside’s growth, culture



Local historian and Kansas City Museum Historian-in-Residence Gene T. Chavez, Ed.D, presented a two-part series on the history of the Westside last Saturday. The presentation, “From Immigrant to Neighbor,” was part of the museum’s Our Legacy/Nuestro Legado Series, profiling different historic ethnic neighborhoods in the city.

School Teacher Receives Grant from WGU Missouri





This week Christina Caraballo, an English Language Learning (ELL) middle school teacher at Kansas City Girls Preparatory Academy (KCGPA), has received a $1,420 grant through WGU Missouri’s “Fund My Classroom” initiative. The grant will be used to purchase a variety of materials for the school’s newcomer program, supporting recently immigrated middle school students with ELL and SLIFE (Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education) needs. Caraballo learned she was selected to receive the grant in May.
